Diplomatic Gifts (9 Oct 2019)

Celina Fox and Jonny Yarker gave a talk entitled ‘Diplomatic Diamonds: The Triumph, Tragedies and Treasures of James Harris, 1st Earl of Malmesbury’. The talk will be held in the Victoria and Albert Museum in the Lydia & Manfred Govy Theatre, beginning at 6.30pm. After the talk, there will be a possibility to have guided tour of the Gilbert Collection by Alice Minter, The Rosalinde & Arthur Gilbert Curator. Malmesbury served as George III’s envoy in Madrid, Berlin, St. Petersburg, The Hague and Paris., and the Gilbert Collection contains many gold and silver objects and gold boxes, presented as diplomatic gifts to sovereigns or diplomats.
