30th Anniversary Call for Papers

For 30 years, the Society for Court Studies has brought together historians specialising in the politics, traditions and cultural settings of royal courts across Britain, Europe and the world.

In October 2026 the Society will hold a one-day symposium at St Mary’s University Twickenham in association with the Strawberry Hill House Trust, to celebrate the 30th Anniversary of its foundation.  It will be centred around the question:

Where are court studies, now?

Papers are invited from up to six Early Career Researchers (doctoral, postdoctoral and independent) on this theme, as it relates to their particular research area.

All research periods and specialisms are eligible, and may range from any period of court studies from anywhere in the world. The focus may be art, economics, gender, politics or something else entirely, but each paper should showcase the way it contributes to the court studies of the present, and consider how it points the way toward the court studies of tomorrow.

Papers should be no more than 20 minutes in length.

(AI-generated prose will not be accepted, but papers demonstrating innovative uses of AI as a research tool are highly welcome)

Please direct all submissions to contact@courtstudies.org

The deadline is August 17th 2026, with successful papers to be announced on September 1st.
