Research & Publication Bursaries
The Society for Court Studies is passionate about promoting and supporting new researchers in the field of court studies. As such, the Society for Court Studies awards a bursary bi-annually, up to £250, with the intent to help researchers with costs associated with research of a piece for publication. These expenses may include archival visits, conference attendance, and photo permissions, but applicants are encouraged to apply for other expenses as well.
To apply for the bi-annual bursaries, please send a statement of up to 250 words outlining your research, and how you would use the bursary. Applicants are encouraged to specify which documents they wish to consult, which archives they would visit, or which conference they seek to attend, as well as an estimation of their costs. Please submit applications to admin@courtstudies.org.
To be eligible for this award the recipient MUST be a post-graduate or early career researcher (completed a PhD within the last 6 years), a registered member of the Society*, and who is researching topics pertaining to court studies. There are no geographic or time period restrictions on this award. Applicants may apply for the award a maximum of two times for the same project. If the applicant is successful in their first application, they must wait 18 months before re-applying.
The annual deadlines for applications are 15 March (with awards being made in April), and 15 October (with awards being made in November).
*Note: The Society offers different membership levels, including a free membership. You can find more information here.
